After being rumored to have the famous role for several months, confirmation has just arrived that Kristen Stewart will be taking on the role of Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman. The Rupert Sanders-directed film has already landed Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron, and this is likely one of the final leads to be cast.
The film’s producer, Palak Patel, slipped the news when he tweeted that the young actress had been cast. He’s since deleted those updates, but TwiFans has managed to grab a screencap of them, which you can see below:

He likely had those deleted as he himself says that the deal hasn’t yet closed, so a deletion could serve as a way to try and make things die down. Clearly, this hasn’t worked, as the all-consuming beast that is the internet won’t let anything publicly said (and multiple times) die down.
Inexplicably, this is one of three productions gearing up that’s based on the property. There’s also Relativity Media’s version, directed by Tarsem and starring Julia Roberts as The Evil Queen. The other one is the Disney production, a re-imagining set in 19th century China. Of all three, the Tarsem one has my attention the most; it’s at least being done by someone who’s interesting on a visual level, and it seems like he could do something new with a tale as old as this one. The other films, even if they’re set in China, don’t give me that impression just yet.
The film follows Snow White as she is mentored by the Huntsman (Mortensen) to defeat the evil queen (Theron). As Stewart is playing the role, we can expect her to a) always be tired yet mildly concerned and b) look down and bite her lip when concerned (which is to say, a lot). Hooray for casting based on fame!
Snow White and the Huntsman will be seen by very few, as it opens on December 21st, 2012.
What do you think of Stewart for Snow White? Which of the three projects do you want to see the most?
