After working with Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg and many more talented directors, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has become quite a hot commodity in Hollywood. Although he has yet to confirm any future projects, keeping busy with his directional debut Don Jon’s Addiction (which is headed for a Sundance premiere later this month), we’ve now got news of a major role he’s being considered for.

According to Deadline, the actor is in Marvel’s sights for the lead role of Peter Quill in their upcoming tentpole Guardians of the Galaxy. Just before the holidays, we got news this role in the James Gunn-directed feature was down to Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi, but it looks like the field has now widened with Gordon-Levitt on the shortlist.

While he hasn’t been offered the gig, the major question that comes to mind is how this will fit into his possible commitment over at Warner Bros. After Nolan had some fun with his character in the final moments of The Dark Knight Rises this summer, we got word that JGL may play Batman in the upcoming DC tentpole Justice League.

It wouldn’t be the first time that there was some cross-over, with Chris Evans being part of Fantastic Four, as well as securing the Captain America gig. While talks are still early, with Garrett Hedlund and even James Marsden also being rumored, JGL could perhaps fit both in, but I couldn’t see the actor consuming all of his time with these lengthy tentpole shoots.

With or without JGL, Guardians of the Galaxy will open on August 1st, 2014.
