It’s hard to gauge how excited/worried on should get reading news like this. Director Joe Johnston, doing the PR thing for The Wolfman, talked to Box Office Magazine a bit about his upcoming Captain America film and the long-gestating Jurassic Park IV.

Here’s what he had to say about Captain America: “It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It’s the origin story of Captain America. It’s mostly period—there are modern, present-day bookends on it—but it’s basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America. The great thing about Captain America is he’s a super hero without any super powers. Which is why this story, among the hundreds of super hero stories, appealed to me the most.” [Boxoffice]

And Jurassic Park IX: “Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three—it’s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way. That’s pretty much all I can tell you.

An origin story and another Jurassic Park trilogy? That’s a whole lotta blockbuster for Mr. Johnston. Let’s hope The Wolfman over-performs, for his sake.

Does the world need another 3 Jurassic Park films? Certainly not. But Captain America sounds promising, provided they go the Iron Man origin route rather than the Wolverine route.

Johnston is one of the more reliable studio directors out there (October Sky, Hidalgo), although Jurassic Park III was an out-and-out mistake. At least this time around it appears he’s promising there’ll be no way people will get to the island.

Until more news comes in (and The Wolfman comes out), chew on that bit right there. For now, I vote Matthew McConaughey to play Steve Rogers.

Do you want another Jurassic Park? Another 3? And who should play Captain America?
