Joe Dante

Burying the Ex wasn’t exactly — or, well, remotely — the comeback machine some of us hoped to see Joe Dante produce, so consider us fortunate that it hasn’t stopped the man of many talents from pursuing features. Per Variety, we know now what he’s planned next: Labirintus, a claustrophobic thriller that sounds like the perfect match for a skilled visual stylist who can’t always raise decent budgets.

Its narrative pairs a psychiatric scientist and ghost-hunting type looking to “explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within Hungary’s Budapest Labyrinth, the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle.” Needless to say, this doesn’t go well, and “supernatural forces confound and torment the group, they begin to question their own sanity.”

Cameras are set to roll in the spring, with Goldcrest backing the project. Here’s hoping this is, at long last, another suitable Dante picture. For more in the meantime, read our interview with him.
