With one of Ridley Scott‘s children just releasing their first film, another is planning their third feature. Jordan Scott finally debuted her Eva Green drama Cracks last month and now Welcome To The Rileys director Jake Scott has found his next film.

Deadline reports he will direct a biopic on Jeff Buckley, a musician whose life was devastatingly cut short over mysterious circumstances in 1997 at the age of 30. The Rocker scribe Ryan Jaffe has script duties for the film. Jeff, son of folk musician Tim Buckley, is most known today for his haunting cover of Leonard Cohen‘s Hallelujah. After the release of his fantastic album Grace, Buckley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to work on another album. While waiting for his band, he tragically drowned in the wake of a passing boat, fully clothed during an evening swim.

For the biopic, “music rights to Buckley’s songs are part of the rights package and the producers have also optioned the David Browne book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley, as a resource.” The author will serve as consultant for the film. Scott already has music-related experience, directing videos for U2, R.E.M., Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Cranberries. Check out one of Buckley’s greatest songs below.
