Pondering over this, I can see Terrence Howard portraying a more than solid Marvin Gaye in Cameron Crowe’s upcoming biopic on the musician. If Deadline is to be believed, that’s the reality we’re currently facing. The report claims “Nothing’s been been signed on paper yet,” but I can’t see why Howard wouldn’t jump at it. It’s not like Cameron Crowe doesn’t know what he’s doing when it comes to music-related pictures, as the modestly good Almost Famous showed us.

The director has been hard at work on this project for three-and-a-half years for Sony Pictures, with Will Smith turning down the offer. Not to say anything bad about Smith, but this isn’t a role he needs as he’s a well-established star and actor. Howard though, could use something to remind us of his acting chops, and what presumably will be marketed well after how poorly he was handled on the Iron Man ordeal. Truth be told, color me interested for this project.

Could Howard pull off Gaye?
