If one takes a look at the recent highest-grossing films in Hollywood, it’s no surprise that a vast majority of them are some sort of sequel, adaptation, spin-off or reboot. With a pre-existing audience, these sorts of films are (usually) guaranteed successes for studios and today we have updates on three different properties.

First up, we’ll cover some Dwayne Johnson-related sequels. After clearing $130 million-plus at the worldwide box office on its first weekend (matching its budget), Variety reports that Paramount is already exploring options for a G.I. Joe: Retaliation follow-up. There’s no word yet on who in the cast will come back, or even if director Jon Chu will return, but we can expect this action figure-based property to rear its head again in the upcoming years.

Next up, there’s been no doubt that Universal will be continuing one of their most successful franchises with Fast and Furious, but it was just a matter of when. With Fast & Furious 6 arriving this summer, we figured this series would stick to one film every two years, but a new update from Vin Diesel on his official Facebook page (via /Film) that indicates it could be much sooner. Check it out below.

There was an early screening in LA this week of Fast 6. The crowd reaction was surreal… and their demand for the continuation was powerful… It’s remarkable to think I first embodied this character in 1999… and the evolution continues. P.s. Filming begins this summer in LA, where it all started… talk about a studio in sync with the audience…

We also got rumors of a possible Hobbs-led spin-off film, but no word yet if this is what Diesel was referring to. We can, however, expect much of the cast to return, along with director Justin Lin, and if Diesel is correct, we could expect another new Fast and Furious by summer 2014.

Lastly, we’ve got new details on the sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine and sorry, Dwayne Johnson is not involved. We got an update earlier this year that original stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke would return, along with director Steve Pink. John Cusack was reportedly not involved in talks, but speaking to Collider at WonderCon, Robinson indicates that he may actually take part. The actor also confirmed a June production start was in the works, so we could see this one by next year.

Are you looking forward to any of the above sequels?
