With this coming less than a week after the first official peek, it looks as though the curtain is beginning to peel back on Cloud Atlas. Our latest gander at the project – concept art and our first production still — comes from HanCinema (via Twitch). One of these, labeled “Seoul 2144″ and seen above, hints at an action scene in a film that I assumed would have nothing of the sort, but that doesn’t mean I’m not intrigued. (Side note: Is there any way the Wachowskis aren’t directing that segment?)
The other piece — which depicts a wooden ship traveling toward what appears to be a dystopic city — is more visually striking to myself. It should be pointed out that Tom Hanks will be probably star in “The Pacific Journal of Adam Ewing,” which tells of a man’s sea voyage from New Zealand to America. The thing is, that story takes place in the 1850s — and, well, this art almost surely couldn’t. If I read David Mitchell‘s novel I’d probably be able to tell you the significance of this image, but I haven’t and, thus, can’t.
You can, however, look at the art below:
There’s also that official still, which I’ve relegated to the final position because of its significant slightness. It acts as a nice compliment to the first image — it features the protagonist of the same story, “An Orison of Sonmi~451,” played by Bae Doona — but that’s the furthest extent to which this interests yours truly.
See it below:
With directing work from Tom Tykwer and also featuring Hugo Weaving, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, and Hugh Grant, Cloud Atlas will hit theaters in late 2012.
