In the world of found-footage horror films, the Eli Roth-produced entry The Last Exorcism has been one of the most successful, grossing almost $70 million on a budget just north of $2 million. As per usual, the single film has now become a franchise and we’ve got an update on when we can see it. Directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly, CBS Films have picked up The Last Exorcism Part II, which brings back star Ashley Bell, and have set a March 1st, 2013 release date. This will put the film against wide releases of WB’s Jack the Giant Slayer, Relativity’s comedy 21 and Over, as well as Fox Searchlight’s Stoker. Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Bell) is found alone and terrified in the woods. Back in the relative safety of civilization, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.
With CBS keeping busy up to release of their horror film, they’ve also decided to push back their comedy The To-Do List a hefty six months, from February all the way to August 16th, where it will open alongside 2 Guns and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Fantasy.
The indie comedy marks the directorial debut from Funny or Die writer and producer Maggie Carey and follows Aubrey Plaza as a high graduate who vows to become sexually literate before venturing to college. One can see the red band teaser here for the film also starring Andy Samberg, Donald Glover, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Connie Britton, Alia Shawkat, Johnny Simmons, Mae Whitman and Clark Gregg.
