I, being an assumer, went ahead and assumed that The Counselor wouldn’t roll until Michael Fassbender finished Twelve Years a Slave — i.e., not for a couple of more months — but I guess Steve McQueen was courteous enough to structure the man’s schedule in a particular fashion. All the proof is right above, as JustJared (via Collider) have snapped our first-ever peek at Ridley Scott‘s new picture — and you’ve got Brad Pitt dressed as a cowboy.
Don’t hope for too much of that, however, since his work on The Counselor is mostly that of producer. As is also the case with Slave, he’ll be making more of a cameo; the character is Westray, a mysterious figure who advises Fassbender’s character on the drug trade and violent consequences tied into it. (Some say Cormac McCarthy‘s script also gives him a great moment in the third act, but that won’t be spoiled.) My thoughts extend to “that look is hilarious and terrific.”
Another update has come from Deadline, who tell us John Leguizamo a) will play a drug dealer in that movie, and b) has landed the part of Red Mist’s bodyguard, Javier, in Kick-Ass 2. (You could point out the irony of Pitt being a producer on the original Kick-Ass. Not that you actually should.) There’s not a whole lot else to add, really, other than my interest in seeing him play something that isn’t a CG, pre-historic sloth.
The Counselor also stars Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Dean Norris, and Rosie Perez. Kick-Ass 2 brings back the original cast of Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, and Nicolas Cage, with Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) stepping into the director’s shoes.
Update: Check out another photo of Pitt below via Yahoo.

Is this shot of Pitt sufficient enough to feed any Counselor hunger? How do you feel about Leguizamo’s dual additions?

Lazarová — now out on Blu-ray via Criterion — is [...]
