While Stephen Daldry‘s last effort, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, arrived with a fair amount of pre-release buzz due to its late-year release and best-seller source material, his next feature looks to be a bit more off the radar. Currently filming in Brazil, Trash is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Mulligan and scripted by Love Actually and About Time‘s Richard Curtis.

Described as a contemporary thriller, the film tracks three boys (Rickson Tevez, Eduardo Luis and Gabriel Weinstein) who scrape a living picking through rubbish mounds. Also starring Rooney Mara and Martin Sheen, the trio of boys soon discover a leather bag, whose contents plunge them into a terrifying adventure, pitting their wits against corruption and authority to put right a terrible wrong. The first official images from the set have now arrived, coming from UOL, and they can be seen above and below.

Trash is expected to hit theaters next May.
