While he’ll return to studio filmmaking in a short time, Tim Burton has scaled down with his next feature, Big Eyes, one that will hopefully be a return to creativity. Reteaming with Ed Wood writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the drama follows Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams taking the lead roles of Walter and Margaret Keane, a couple who achieved international recognition during the ’60s with their “pop-eyed paintings” amidst some internal controversy.

“I remember the pictures from the 1960s, they were everywhere,” Waltz tells USA Today, who have debuted the first images. “We train ourselves to look for drama, to go for conflict because those are the stories worth telling. It would be expected that this (situation) too would be something extraordinary.” While the film hasn’t yet set a festival opening, we can expect news of that soon, along with a trailer. Check out the images above and below in the meantime.
