With new Batman and Spider-Man films, along with The Avengers, this summer was simply a precursor for 2015. In three years we’ll be seeing a massive line-up, including The Avengers 2, Avatar 2, Star Wars: Episode VII, Justice League, Ant-Man and now, the Fantastic Four reboot. Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), 20th Century Fox has set an opening date for the film of March 6th, 2015.

Fox has had previous attempts at launching the franchise and while they couldn’t be called failures, they were certainly not as well-received as other Marvel projects. The 2005 version had a budget of $87.5 million and grossed just over $150 million domestically, while the 2007 follow-up Rise of the Silver Surfer had a bigger budget ($120 million), but did less box office, only pulling in $130 million domestically. This time around, Fox have brought on  a new, young talent in hopes to rejuvenate the series.

New kid on the block Jeremy Slater penned the script for the Fox reboot, after Lionsgate snatched up his first script, a horror spec set in the tradition of H.P. Lovecraft, called Tape 4. His second, My Spy, a teenage spy comedy is in development at Universal with Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) set to direct. Despite Slater’s previous works, it was actually another superhero spec he wrote called The Man of Tomorrow that landed him the Fantastic Four gig. The Man of Tomorrow is reportedly a dark and gritty period piece set in the 40’s, which takes a look at the lives of Superman and Batman without mentioning them by name, but only referring to their abilities. With lots of potential, lets hope he meshes well with the characters created by legends Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

Are you looking forward to a new Fantastic Four?
