From an outsider’s perspective, no frequently discussed side of filmmaking is less understood than film editing, a craft whose success requires (among many other things) a marriage of intentions between a director and fresh pair(s) of eyes. This can lead to conflicts, debates, firings, hirings, and any number of troubles that get whispered about, but none of that matters if the final result works — in other words, if the people involved can agree on just how a movie should move from moment to moment.

Its entry-level title notwithstanding, this nearly 12-minute visual breakdown effectively portrays the ins and outs of film editing through numerous clips and voiceover. The result is no less entertaining than it is educational.
