Earlier this summer we reported that The Bourne Identity and Jumper director Doug Liman was attached to All You Need Is Kill, a Dante Harper adaptation of the 2004 Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel of the same name, the rights owned by Warner Bros.

It has now been confirmed he will direct the project, instead of a planned 3 Musketeers reboot (which another version of is currently being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson). Check out the synopsis of All You Need Is Kill below.

Story centers on a new recruit in a war against aliens who finds himself caught in a time loop in which he wakes up in the past after having been killed on the battlefield. As the soldier’s death and resurrection repeat, his skills as a soldier grows as he attempts to change his fate.

A solider fighting aliens and repeating his death as he levels up? Sounds like a mix of District 9 and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. We will continue to be infested with alien pics the next few years after the success of Avatar and D9, and I can’t complain. More sci-fi in cinemas is always good. Liman is a solid director and I’m really glad he is doing this rather than Jumper 2.

His next film, Fair Game starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, just had a trailer premiere and will hit theaters Nov. 5th.

What do you think of the All You Need Is Kill premise? Is Liman a good fit?
