Following the game-changing acquisition of John Leguizamo (I jest with the snark), Deadline reports that Kick-Ass 2 has found another hero in the form of Donald Faison. The actor, best known for his long work on Scrubs  — we can let Skyline pass by — is currently negotiating to play Dr. Gravity, a baseball bat-preferring man who works alongside Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) in his battle against Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Considering Mark Millar‘s penchant for blunt objects, expect things to get messy with his character.

A nice little (or not so little; those who read the comic will know) addition to a sequel for which my interest grows a little bit more every time out. It’s still not high, certainly not even what you’d call “sufficient,” but there’s something going on. Maybe I’m just a sucker for Hit Girl’s homicidal antics.

With Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) on writing and directing duties, Kick-Ass 2 will also see the return of Chloe Moretz and Nicolas Cage.

Next, Variety names Malin Akerman as one of the first additions to David Ayer‘s Breacher, a film which, up to this point, has been stacking itself with manliness — Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, and Joe Manganiello are all in the cast, while Dawn Olivieri is the only star missing that Y chromosome.

This confection of stars will play DEA agents using some routine operations as the chance to rob a drug cartel; a clever plan, but one that goes awry when they find themselves getting killed on a terrifying member-by-member basis. (This is another way of saying “Schwarzenegger is the last one alive.”) Akerman, to no one’s surprise, will play one of the team.

Breacher is coming together in a perfectly decent fashion thus far — its derivative premise might be the only real setback, when you break it down — if not entirely exemplary. We’ll have some better view of this one’s prospects when shooting begins next month.
