Finally, a sequel update to be happy about!
Writer/Director/Actress/Musician Julie Delpy told Screen Daily she’s just finished the script of, and intends to make, 2 Days In New York, a sequel to 2007′s 2 Days In Paris, which starred Delpy and Adam Goldberg as a bickering couple, Marion and Jack, traveling to Paris, Marion’s home, only to encounter even more hurdles to jump.
It’s a lighter, funnier version of Before Sunset, which Delpy co-wrote with director Richard Linklater and co-star Ethan Hawke and was a sequel itself to Before Sunrise.
This time around, Marion is in New York with a new lover and a new baby. The baby, however, is a product of Jack’s. Goldberg, unfortunately, will not be in this new film, but a “well-known US actor” is expected to play the new meat. Someone call Bradley Cooper, it seems the man can’t say no to anything.
The film did considerably well at the box office, scratching in around $20 million worldwide. Rezo Films, which sold the first film, is not surprisingly back for the sequel. One wonders if Samuel Goldwyn will distribute, as it did the first film.
It’s nice to see Delpy giving 2 Days In Paris the Before treatment. As a relationship comedy, the first film acutely captures the struggle of two people, no matter how much in love, to fully understand each other, especially when those two people are from different countries.
Hopefully 2 Days In New York extends on the observation. Shooting is intended to start in October of this year.
