David Goyer has been very hit-or-miss in his writing career. Working on Christoper Nolan‘s Batman trilogy, capping it off with The Dark Knight Rises next summer, as well as Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, he was also behind such turds as Jumper and The Unborn. Deadline now reports his next project, and we hope it will be in the former category.

The directorial talent is already there, with Monsters helmer Gareth Edwards taking on the Godzilla reboot, but now Goyer has come abroad to script, taking over for David Callaham. The Legendary Pictures production is said to approach the material in “most authentic manner possible.” We have no idea what the plot will entail, but Edwards has confirmed his intent to get everything right, and how important that is.

I thought he showed his chops with the ultra low-budget Monsters last year and I hope this big-budget just lets him expand further, but not become overwhelmed. As for Goyer, I’ve never fallen in love with any of his scripts, but he knows how to create massive budget action with some brain, so lets hope that continues here.

There was a rumored 2012 release, but with a scribe only just now hired, it may get pushed further.

What do you think about Goyer scripting Godzilla?
