With Matthew Vaughn opting out of directing X-Men: Days of Future Past, it doesn’t mean he’ll leave the comic book realm for his next project. We got official word last month that he’s reteaming with Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar for an adaptation of his recent release, The Secret Service.

With a release date already set in place for late 2014, the first piece of casting has been revealed, and it looks like 20th Century Fox is aiming high. According to Latino Review, Colin Firth has booked the role, with the Oscar-winning actor even confirming his involvement to Rogers Movie Nation, saying, it’s “too early to talk about now, but it’ll be unlike anything I’ve done.”

Indeed, it will be the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy‘s star first comic book movie and one that seems him play a James Bond-esque spy named Uncle Jack, working for MI6. The other major part that has yet to be cast is his nephew Gary, who Firth’s character must train. With a bevy of fairly serious roles, it will be fun to see Firth let loose here and we can expect more casting momentarily. Check out a preview of the comic here.

The Secret Service opens on November 21st, 2014.

Are you looking forward to seeing Firth in a comic book film?
