After years of talk that Hit Somebody was going to be his final feature film, Kevin Smith‘s hockey odyssey is now headed to the small-screen in miniseries form and the director/public speaker/podcaster announced last month via Twitter that Clerks III would instead be his swan song.

Outside of that, not much information has been given, but through an interview with Good Day L.A. [via /Film] Smith has announced that he is hoping to ready Clerks III for a 2014 release to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the first Clerks released in 1994.

Naturally this isn’t etched in stone, remember Hit Somebody was slated to be both a single film and a two-parter at one point, but I think it’s definitely the perfect way for Smith to go out as a film director and having him plan on doing it for the 20th anniversary of the movie that put him on the map is even better. I’m all for Clerks to become a trilogy (both the 1994 film and the 2006 sequel rank among my all-time favorites) and will be paying close attention to its development.

In other sequel (and genre and country) news, Twitch has reported that The Host 2, the sequel to the 2006 Korean monster movie, is eyeing an early Summer 2014 bow. Writer/director  Yim Pil-sung (Hansel and Gretel, The Doomsday Book) has finished the screenplay and commercial director Park Myeong-chan will helm in his feature film debut.

Not much is known about The Host 2 other than it’ll feature two monsters instead of one this time around. There’s also some test footage for The Host 2 floating around if you’re into that sort of thing. It seems like an odd sequel to make, but at least it’ll get here faster than, say, Cloverfield 2 which is a monster movie sequel I should give up on at this point.
