While most will now likely recognize Clark Gregg from his turn in the Marvel Universe as Agent Phil Coulson, its been awhile since we heard any sort of plans for the respected actor getting behind the camera again. After delivering a solid adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk‘s Choke back in 2008, he’s bringing along his main star Sam Rockwell and many others along for his next project.

A press release indicates the Gregg has written the script Trust Me, which he’s already directing as we speak. The pleasant surprises continue, as he’s already set his entire ensemble, which includes an impressive line-up of Amanda Peet, Allison Janney, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Paul Sparks, Molly Shannon, Niecy Nash and Gregg himself. Check out the official synopsis below.

A dark comedy about the sordid world of child stars and the obsession with stardom. The story follows a loser agent for young actors — and a washed-up child star himself — who stumbles upon a brilliant 13-year-old prodigy (to be played by newcomer Saxon Sharbino) and then tries to close the mega-deal that will make her a star while managing her drunk volatile father, the poaching attempts of a more successful nemesis and a growing awareness that his innocent young starlet may not be at all what she seems.

Production kicked off late last month in Los Angeles.
