The Jim Carrey jokes write themselves, unfortunately; Showbiz411 reports that a casting call has gone out for Chris Rock‘s latest film project Finally Famous. Rock will star as Andre Allen, an actor whose transition from comedy to drama isn’t going so well. While his latest film is tanking, Allen is also preparing to wed popular reality star Erica Long and due to their fame it is not only being televised but it has become the biggest media event of the year.

As Allen inches closer and closer to the wedding date he takes time out to be interviewed by New Yorker writer Chelsea Brown, and their no holds barred conversation could very well change the course of both of their lives for the better. This marks Rock’s first stint as feature writer/director in six years, his last movie being 2007’s I Think I Love My Wife. Casting is underway for both female roles as well as Allen’s assistant Silk and production is slated to begin in June with Scott Rudin producing.

As much as I dislike most of Rock’s studio work, I love him as a comedian and as a writer so I’ve got a lot of faith in Finally Famous; it has the potential to be a clever send-up of both the transition from comedy to drama as well as our obsession with reality shows and reality show stars. Here’s hoping it’s successful enough to let Rock write/direct more of his own stuff; I like it a lot better when he’s in the driver’s seat.

Any thoughts on Finally Famous?
