One of the funniest films of the last few years was certainly Scott Sanders‘ Black Dynamite. In a Hollywood world where so many spoofs come off cheap and easy, this one perfectly nailing the genre and as the years have passed, we’ve been clamoring to see the return of Michael Jai White in another feature film.

After some early word, over the summer news hit that a trilogy is planned but the next steps were still being decided. It looks like we finally have a hint where our hero could find himself.  “In the inception of Black Dynamite there were a few type[s] of ideas we were going to do. Kind of like Monty Python, use the same cast but do different type[s] of movies,” Michael Jai White recently told Crave Online. “We had discussed, and it looks like we’re getting closer to the decision of something that would be an homage to Blazing Saddles. […] It’s a western comedy in that spirit of Blazing Saddles, but you mix that with Buck and the Preacher.”

After spoofing the blaxploitation genre, this sounds like a sublime direction for the series to head. We recently saw Casa de mi Padre try (and in my opinion, fail) to spoof a similar genre, but I think Sanders has the right mindset of when to go overboard and when to pull back, so hopefully we get news on this one soon.
