Although Arnold Schwarzenegger was looking to make Cry Macho, a horse trainer drama, his return to Hollywood, it looks like he is going to back to action with The Last Stand. After his scandal including a divorce from Maria Shriver, we learned that he is taking a break from all film projects, but Deadline reports that he is making Kim Ji-woon‘s English-language debut his next film, after getting a hint a few days ago.

A Lionsgate exec said the old-fashioned action western is “specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision” With the story based around whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town,” they “always needed an iconic figure for it.”

After Liam Neeson was attached to the film, he dropped and Arnold reportedly “fell in love with the movie several months ago.” After The Good, the Bad, the Weird and I Saw the Devil, I absolutely can’t wait to see what Kim Ji-woon has up his sleeves. He recently commented on the project saying:

My concept for ‘The Last Stand‘ is that it’s kind of a combination of ‘Die Hard ‘ and ‘High Noon ‘ where (the latter) was about protecting something very important that needs to be protected, while ‘Die Hard’ is a very drawn-out, long process that almost kills someone in the process, so my film will be something that has to be very well protected and in the process, we almost die protecting it in a way.

The Last Stand is aiming for a September shoot while Cry Macho may be canned if it doesn’t make a spring 2012 shoot.

Are you ready for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return? Is this a worthy project?
