audiard

After rising in the international ranks with The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet, and more, France’s Jacques Audiard delivered his highest-profile project a few years ago with the Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts-led Rust & Bone. For those, like us, that have been waiting to hear what the filmmaker would take on next, after he tossed around ideas for a musical and a western, today brings news of his project.

Beginning production next week, it’s been revealed that the drama Erran will mark his next project, the story of a Sri Lankan Tamil fighter who fled Sri Lanka to become custodian of public housing in the suburbs of Paris. CineEuropa pointed us to the news, but open casting calls have been floating around for some time. While it’s not revealed yet who received the part, Audiard’s script was partially inspired by Montesquieu‘s Persian Letters, focusing on “culture shock and this refugee’s perception of modern-day French society.”

As we await more details, check out Audiard and his collaborators extensively discussing his last two projects below:

Erran‘s production wraps in December, making it a likely bet for Cannes next year.
