A few weeks ago we reported that Tarsem‘s upcoming epic War of the Gods may be delayed to possibly go 3D. It looks like that isn’t the case, as Variety reports the film will start production in April by Universal and that Slumdog Millionaire‘s Freida Pinto will star. She will play Phaedra, “an oracle priestess who must join Theseus — played by Henry Cavill (The Tudors) — on his quest to prevent the cataclysmic war from erupting.” The story “follows a young warrior Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind.”

I loved Tarsem‘s The Fall and Pinto’s performance in Slumdog Millionaire, so this is a great combo. It will be interesting to see her play a heavy action role, especially directed by Tarsem.

Frieda Pinto will star in Woody Allen‘s You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger and Julian Schnabel’s Miral, both seeing a release this year.
