‘24′ Film Gets ‘State of Play’ and ‘Breach’ Writer

According to a report from Variety, the long talked about 24 feature film is finally moving along. FOX has hired writer Billy Ray to pen the script. Variety states in regards to the plot:

The film side has hired scribe Billy Ray (“State of Play,” “Flightplan”) to pen the script for the feature version. Ray’s pitch, which takes Jack Bauer to Europe, was a hit with Fox execs and producers of the high-concept television series.

Ray is also well know for writing and directing 2007’s Breach. The project is set to be produced by the shows producers including Kiefer Sutherland, Robert Cochran, Joel Surnow, and Howard Gordon.

It is also unclear at this point who FOX is looking at to direct but one possibility could be 24’s former long standing director Jon Cassar. Ironically, 2 weeks ago I asked Cassar over twitter if he would ever be interested in directing a 24 movie to which he responded:

If it happens there is nothing I would love to do more than direct the 24 feature film.

It is still unclear at this point if this season of 24 will be it’s last but I expect a movie to not be that far behind. The last 2 times FOX brought one of its series to film (X-Files and The Simpsons) it has been very successful both critically and commercially.

What would you want to see in a 24 movie?
