Major ‘Captain America’ Updates

Earlier today Collider sat down with director Joe Johnston regarding his new film Wolfman, due out this week. Of course the interview eventually led to questions regarding Johnston’s film Captain America: The First Avenger. Here are the highlights Collider posted:

– He’s definitely casting an American to play Captain America

– Needs to have casting done by March 1

– He’s shooting Captain America in HD and says if they do 3D it’ll be in post

– Says he’s going to shoot Captain America in a different way than any of the other Marvel pictures have been shot

– They’re going to shoot most of it in the UK because the movie takes place in Europe

– Regarding casting a movie star to play Captain America…Johnston says he wants to discover an unknown and surround him with more prominent names

– And while he didn’t tell us anything about the villain of the film, AICN is reporting Johnston told someone at the junket that Red Skull is going to be the villain.

It sounds like they are on the fence about the 3D which is a good thing. They are setting it up so the HD will make it easier to go 3D if they decide to do it in post but they won’t be forced too. This report also includes the second update regarding the villain.

The third, and perhaps most interesting piece of news is one of the actors being considered for the role. That guy from Chuck, Ryan McPartlin. In a quote given to Moviehole he stated:

“The one thing I can’t stand are these actors that are twittering about auditioning for Captain America. It’s really tacky,” he said. “With that said, it is in the casting process and like many other actors, I read for it, so we’ll wait and see what happens. Regardless, I’m pretty psyched to be Captain Awesome for the time being.”

I don’t know if McPartlin can pull of serious (which is understandable considering his role on Chuck) but if he can, then I can see it working. Check back to TFS for Captain America updates, as the cast will be confirmed soon.

Captain America comes out July 22nd, 2011.

Would you want to see Captain Awesome become Captain America?
