Keira Knightley and Leonardo DiCaprio To Join John Curran’s F. Scott Fitzgerald Biopic?

The Playlist has translated a report from a foreign site regarding John Curran‘s The Beautiful and The Damned, an F. Scott Fitzgerald biopic. Curran, who was behind The Painted Veil, as well as this year’s Stone, which stars Edward Norton and Robert De Niro and is one of our most anticipated films of the year. The report states that the Fitzgerald biopic is set to shoot this spring in Croatia with Keira Knightley to play his wife, Zelda. It isn’t confirmed yet, but Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to play the lead. The Playlist reports on the film below.

The Fitzgeralds were icons of the Jazz Age in the 20′s and are famous for their illustrious, erratic lifestyles. Both died relatively young in the their forties, leaving behind a legacy — despite failing when first released, F. Scott’s “The Great Gatsby” is now and out and out classic.

The film’s title is appropriately derived from Fitzgerald’s second novel “The Beautiful And Damned” about a Jazz Age socialite, his relationship with wife Gloria and his alcoholism which draws from Fitzgerald’s own life. Hanna Weg’s script will focus on the couple’s turbulent marriage and their darker days including Zelda’s struggles with schizophrenia. Their travels to Paris and the French Riviera are also reported to be involved with Croatia substituting for said location.

I’d love to see DiCaprio take on Fitzgerald. He has a stellar year with Martin Scorsese‘s Shutter Island and Christopher Nolan‘s Inception. He is also going to be in Mel Gibson‘s Viking flick. IMDb lists the almost 30 projects he has in development, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he doesn’t have time for this biopic.

The Beautiful and The Damned is set to shoot this spring in Croatia.

Would you want to see DiCaprio as Fitzgerald?

The Painted Veil was a beautiful film. Perfect casting IMHO. I hope this has a decent script and actually comes to pass.
