‘Amityville Horror’ To Be Remade Again?

(“Ooh, don’t remake meeeeeeee!”)

BloodyDisgusting (via ScreenRant) has uncovered the snippet of news that Dimension and the Weinstein Company may be doing a second remake of The Amityville Horror. The original, starring James Brolin, was released in 1979, and the 2005 Platinum Dunes produced remake starring Ryan Reynolds was a hit at the box office, grossing over $100 million in its theatrical run. The next remake has only just been announced, so the news is somewhat slim. Also owning rights is MGM, who planned to make an installment named The Amityville Tapes, although with their current financial trouble, this may not be a real possibility.

Who here really needs to see another remake of the classic 70’s horror film, or any classic 70’s horror film? The remake was pretty terrible (and in equal parts funny), so there’s definitely a room for improvement, but honestly, who expects much from this potential project? My only hope is that they could capture the atmosphere of the original that followed the classic formula of not overdoing things, something the remake clearly forgot. But hey, at least it might not be produced by Platinum Dunes…

What do you think of an Amityville Horror remake?
