Just two points, both pretty pedantic.

It's *Bated* breath, unless you're a fisherman. From the verb bate.

The toys are in the graphic novel, so it's nothing to do with Zach Snyder.

Zack Snyder is an utter failure. The fact that he's tried to please fans with not one, but two extended cuts of a movie proves that. Also, if he was planning on cutting together "the complete story" on dvd he should've had the foresight to do the original ending when the movie was in the filming stage. The fact that the ending is different makes the story incomplete for one, defeats the entire purpose of making the film in the first place, and is also the reason why I will NEVER watch this piece of garbage ever again (I saw it in the theater on opening night and that was the end of it). I'm sure the main reason the end was changed is because Hollywood wouldn't allow it to be made. Also, for the record, the part about the toys was in the book, it had nothing to do with the director making a statement about how such a violent movie would be merchandized, Ozymandias had plans for a toy line in the book. While small details like that were left in to try to make hardcore fans happy, that doesn't change the fact that he COMPLETELY CHANGED THE ENDING, which COMPLETELY RUINED THE STORY. Also, he totally changed the origin of Rorschach to avoid similarities with the "Saw" movie franchise. If you would just read the book, he didn't hack the pedophile to death, he handcuffed him to the wood burning stove, gave him a hacksaw to chop his own arm off (if he really wanted to escape) "don't try to cut through handcuffs, won't make it in time." , lit the house on fire, and stepped outside to watch it burn..."no one got out". Which again brings us back to the fact that many pivotal points in the story were completely changed. The fact that this is being called "the complete story" makes my skin crawl. The complete story was written by Alan Moore, and if you want to experience it go but the graphic novel, turn off the TV and READ IT. Mr. Moore wanted his name removed from every movie optioned from his work for good reason, because his work cannot be translated into other mediums accurately...they are meant to be comic books. It is the only medium in which this story (or any of his others) can be told or experienced correctly.

Can you watch this Ultimate Cut without the Black Freighter scenes? I'm thinking I'd love to watch it once all-included but I'd love to disable that option when I'm pressed for time or when I'm or viewings with family/friends who won't care for it.

That was the most fantastic review I've read of Watchmen. I'm biased of course and I think your insistence on holding The Dark Knight over Watchmen is absurd but I'm willing to concede that for the common ground that Watchmen is a great film.
