[Avatar] Possible Running Time, International Posters, Massive Ad Campaign + Trailer Comparisons

Avatar106

We have a couple more updates from James Cameron‘s Avatar for you. According to BFI, Avatar‘s running time will clock in at 165 minutes. It’s been rumored for a while now that Avatar would carry a hefty running time, but a part of this report doesn’t make complete sense. The fact is, IMAX can only hold prints up to 150 minutes long. Perhaps Cameron has created some crazy new device to change that, but its still worth noting that this reported running time may not be legit. Although, in this interview with the film’s producer John Landau, he pretty much implies that it may now be possible to show films longer than 150 minutes in IMAX.

We also found a French poster for Avatar a couple of days ago, but it looks like some more international posters have sprung up. This time Russian via Kinopoisk. Check them all out below.

After much more buzz and awareness rising after the latest trailer, this Sunday will also serve as another big publicity push for Avatar. TV spots will be playing throughout FOX Sunday’s football games and even during Game 4 of the World Series. In even cooler news, during the Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday the latest three and a half minute trailer will be shown on their gigantic Mitsubishi screen. The trailer will also be broadcast at about 12 p.m. central time. This is obviously a smart idea since a good chunk of people are still completely unaware of Avatar. The release date is less than two months away and for a movie of its scope, it needs to start building awareness fast. Lucky for FOX, the trailer is actually impressive and should gain plenty of interest.

Over at Market Saw we also came across a video comparison highlighting the differences between the teaser and the trailer. Check out some pics below, then the full video.

If you haven’t checked out the trailer and the 126 HD screencaps I created head over here. The featurette is also in HD now and beautifully to behold.

Avatar hits December 18th, 2009.

What do you think of the new posters, the running time, trailer comparisons, and the massive ad campaign? Will it work?
