An Asteroids…Movie?

asteroids

/Film reported today that Universal Pictures has won the film right to the classic 70’s video game Asteroids. They have hired Disney writer Matthew Lopez (Bedtime Stories) to pen a script for the new film. The producer of Transformers and G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra Lorenzo di Bonaventura is also attached to the film.

Peter Sciretta took the word right out of my mouth when he said “I can totally imagine Michael Bay (Transformers) making a film based on Asteroids. Hell, Armageddon could have been titled Asteroids.” I don’t see a reason for this but this could turn into a really interesting film. But let’s not forget that video game to movie adaptations have a poor track record.

Do you think this is a good idea?
