News is circulating that a movie adaptation of the popular Playstation 3 game Uncharted: Drakes Fortune will be produced. As the project was just announced, news on the movie is scarce at this point, except for who will be writing the movie. Screenwriter Kyle Ward has been chosen to write the film. Interestingly enough, Ward was also selected this week to write the sequel to 2007′s video game movie Hitman, at this point only being called Hitman 2. He also has another video game adaptation in the pipeline, based off of the 2007 video game Kane and Lynch, set to star Bruce Willis.
Uncharted revolves around the character of Nate Drake who searches with his colleagues for the mythical lost city of gold El Dorado. Along the way he must battle mutants who were altered by a cursed statue. The game takes its influences from properties such as the Indiana Jones series in terms of story, character, and setting. Some have already called for Nathon Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) to star as Drake, although at this point it’s merely wishful thinking as the film is still in very early development.
While I’m not a fan of video game movies, Uncharted seems like it could make a good movie if the game’s reviews are any indication and if the right talent is put in charge. But, then again, that’s what is always said before one of these movies is made, and then they turn out to not be very good. But, I’m willing to hold out hope, and even if this fails, there’s always Bioshock (hopefully).
Have you played Uncharted? Do you think it would it make a good movie?
